My Story: Why I Started SMOMs

I spent years as a stay-at-home mom, putting everyone else first—because that’s what I thought good moms were supposed to do. Then my marriage ended, and everything I knew got flipped on its head. Suddenly I was a single mom with two little girls, a 7-year resume gap, and no clue how I’d be able to afford to stay in my house. I got child support, my ex did help, but I knew that would not last forever, and that I would need my own 401k and my own Health Insurance, and job security so I could afford to stay in my house.

Some days, I cried in the car after school drop-off. I panicked at the thought of trying to remember how to sound like a “professional.” I was worried I would be invisible in the job market, and sometimes even in my own life.

But slowly, I came back to myself. I updated my LinkedIn profile with shaky hands. I networked with old work colleagues. I landed a job. I rebuilt my confidence. I blended a family. I found joy again.

And one day, I looked in the mirror and actually recognized the woman staring back and was proud of her. That’s why I started SMOMs:
Because during all those years I was figuring everything out, I never had a place I could just vent in middle of my messy middle of reinvention. I had friends, great friends, but not a home base for rebuilding, which is why I built this.

My Mission

Today, I work full-time in a successful career I genuinely enjoy (most of the time), and I have my own 401k retirement plan, paid time off, and my own Health Insurance. But Smoms is my passion project—because I know how isolating it can feel when you’re starting over and don’t know where to begin. I’m here to make sure other moms don’t have to figure it all out alone. Whether you’re

  • Reentering the workforce after being home for years
  • Divorcing and building a new life
  • Burned out and craving something more

Or just ready to find yourself again –  I’m here to help you press “play” on your next chapter, on your terms.

My Qualifications

More about my background, and what makes me qualified to help you (although I still have imposter syndrome sometimes… I actually do have a lot of experience!:

I’m not officially a “coach” – but I have worn that hat many times. I am not a therapist, but I have spent many years in therapy myself, and am obsessed with self-help books and podcasts. What I am is – a real-live comeback queen—and I want to help you be one too.

Fun Facts About Me

I was a stay-at-home mom with a 7-year resume gap, who had to start over after divorce—so I get the fear, the guilt, and the identity crisis that can come with reentering the workforce.

I’m now remarried, managing a blended family of four teens while working full-time in technology—and running this passion project to help moms like you find your comeback path.

I studied journalism, pivoted to marketing, got my MBA, then pivoted to technology, and now I lead a team of consultants and Project Managers—proof that reinvention is possible (and marketable).

I’m obsessed with health, self-help books and podcasts, wellness, skincare, and staying strong—mentally and physically—even when life’s chaotic and curvy.

When I first went back to work, I doubted myself constantly. I had total imposter syndrome. If you’re scared and stuck, you’re not alone.

I believe in real talk, authenticity, flexible careers, and that moms deserve more than survival mode. That’s why I built SMOMs.
